The Oil Sands Monitoring (OSM) Branch is dedicated to protecting Alberta's environment by undertaking monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the environmental impacts from oil sands development activities in the oil sands region of Alberta.
We are seeking an Environmental Monitoring Specialist to join our team in Edmonton. In this role, you will monitor, evaluate, and report on the condition of Alberta's watersheds, using your expertise in surface water quality and lotic systems to provide scientifically credible insights for responsible resource management.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and improving long-term water quality monitoring and research programs for Alberta's lotic systems;
- Safeguarding the implementation of monitoring and research projects, ensuring alignment with best practices and safety standards;
- Analyzing and synthesizing environmental data for publication in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, and state-of-the-environment assessments;
- Working with Indigenous communities, government agencies, industry, and academic stakeholders to integrate scientific knowledge and practices;
To be successful in this role, you will require a minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral or equivalent work experience in designing and implementing water research and monitoring programs, analyzing and reporting large environmental datasets, publishing primary and collaborative peer-reviewed scientific research, and university graduation in a related field, plus 6 years of related experience.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Edmonton, Alberta, with a salary range of $80,290 - $105,784 per year. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, totaling 36.25 hours per week.
