Job Description

As a Senior Environmental Professional at Barrick's Carlin site, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with air quality regulations and permits.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all legal and regulatory obligations associated with Title V Air Permits, Mercury Operating Permits, Federal MACT, and GHG reporting are met.
  • Oversee maintenance of existing air compliance systems and develop new systems as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with regulatory agency personnel, site managers, corporate resources, legal counsel, and stakeholders.
  • Lead inspections of mine operations to ensure permit compliance and accompany regulatory inspectors on periodic inspections.
  • Manage and develop Environmental Engineers, Coordinators, and Technicians by overseeing data collection, evaluation, and reporting to governmental agencies and Corporate Sustainability.
  • Coordinate with business partners to complete permit applications and work with agency personnel to obtain approval for permit modifications.
  • Manage the stack testing program from schedule coordination to review and submission of reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare semi-annual and annual compliance reports as assigned.
  • Act as a customer service representative to ensure Operations personnel understand air permit obligations and provide guidance on permitting decisions.
  • Assist with training NGM employees, contractors, and others.
  • Respond to environmental incidents as needed, requiring ability to walk uneven terrain and lift 40+ pounds consistently and safely.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required.
  • Five to ten years of direct experience in environmental compliance, including regulatory interactions required.
  • Three or more years in a mining environment preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Title V air permitting regulations required.
  • Experience with NESHAPs for Gold Mine Ore Processing and Production Area Source Category (7E) and Nevada Mercury Control Program preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • In-depth experience with Excel required.
  • Experience with database programs preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential responsibilities of the position required.
  • Experience in other environmental media preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of permitting processes relative to NDEP preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015 preferred.
