Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled 4th Class Power Engineer to join our Facilities Maintenance team at Providence Health Care. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of our plant, ensuring the smooth delivery of healthcare services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heating and air conditioning systems, including starting up and shutting down related pumps, fans, air compressors, and pneumatic systems.
  • Monitor and adjust temperature control systems, and record meter and gauge readings to ensure distribution of air heating to designated areas.
  • Perform inspections and repairs on equipment such as hot and cold water lines, waste lines, sewer lines, sumps, and traps, steam valves, radiator traps, sterilizers, ovens, warmers, and distribution lines, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Monitor and adjust physical plant and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems by operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, and/or electronic control systems.
  • Perform preventive and demand maintenance on steam and hot water heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems by lubricating, repairing, replacing, or installing equipment and/or parts.
  • Test and maintain auxiliary power generators and repair/adjust as required.
  • Clean, check, lubricate, and perform minor welding repairs to equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, and floor cleaners.
  • Change and clean ventilating air filters, fan rooms, and duct work as required.
  • Answer service and emergency calls for systems such as fire protection, medical air, vacuum, and gas, and ETO sterilizers.
  • Reset systems, assess, and perform required repairs and/or call in required persons according to established procedures.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical treatment systems.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and extend steam piping systems, including components of the Physical Plant such as expansion joints, valves, steam traps, strainers, heat exchangers, gauges, and insulation.
  • Ensure compliance with various codes and regulations applying to power engineering and/or safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of British Columbia.
  • Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
