Comp 2231: Data Structures and Algorithms Content Specialist

The Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning is seeking an experienced content specialist to revamp the COMP 2231: Data Structures and Algorithms course.

About the Job

We are looking for a qualified individual with a PhD in computer science who has considerable teaching or industrial experience in Computer Systems. The ideal candidate should have recent experience teaching computer science face-to-face and/or via distance learning.

In this role, you will work under the guidance of the Instructional Designer responsible for the course development project. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in brainstorming and planning sessions;
  • Developing a detailed framework (or blueprint) for the course which includes relevant learning outcomes, learning activities, and assessments appropriate for an online continuous entry course;
  • Revising and/or developing content, including learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for an online continuous entry course;
  • Creating multimedia or other active learning activities to ensure student engagement through experiential learning;
  • Choosing effective and appropriate resources, ideally digital, and prioritizing low-cost and accessible options, such as Open Educational Resources (OERs), TRU's e-Library collection and article databases, and other accessible material and media.

You will also be expected to meet deliverables according to the agreed-upon timeline, respond to project-related communication and meeting requests in a timely manner, and participate in post-development contract evaluation.

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in computer science;
  • Considerable teaching or industrial experience in Computer Systems;
  • Recent experience teaching computer science face-to-face and/or via distance learning;
  • Significant relevant work experience;
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues.
