L’officier de guerre navale est un membre des Forces armées canadiennes qui commande des navires et des sous-marins de la Marine royale canadienne. Il est responsable de la gestion et de la direction de la stratégie, de la tactique et des procédures maritimes pour l'utilisation des navires, des sous-marins et des aéronefs, des capteurs maritimes, du renseignement brut de combat et des systèmes d'armes.
Compétences et responsabilités :
- Commander, coordonner et contrôler les opérations maritimes militaires
- Diriger et prendre des décisions qui auront une incidence sur la conduite générale des opérations et sur la sécurité de l'équipage du navire
- Fournir de l'expertise dans toute une gamme d'activités liées à l'exercice de la puissance maritime
- Diriger et mettre en œuvre des stratégies, des tactiques et des procédures relatives à l'utilisation des navires, des sous-marins, des aéronefs, des capteurs maritimes, du renseignement brut de combat et des systèmes d'armes
- Prendre part à la conception, à l'acquisition et à l'évaluation de navires ou de systèmes
- Exécuter des tâches d'état-major et d'instruction ainsi que des tâches administratives
Exigences :
- Posséder la citoyenneté canadienne ou être résident permanent vivant au Canada
- Avoir 18 ans (17 ans avec le consentement parental) ou plus, sauf pour les programmes d'études subventionnées, pour lesquels vous devez être âgé de 16 ans (avec le consentement parental) ou plus
- Avoir terminé une 12e année ou un 5e secondaire au Québec (certains emplois exigent un niveau de scolarité plus élevé)
- Détenir un baccalauréat ou étudier en vue d'en obtenir un
Environnement de travail :
L'officier de guerre navale travaille dans deux environnements distincts : en mer et à terre. Comme tous les membres du personnel de bord, il fait l'expérience des défis et des aventures à caractère unique qui vont de pair avec le travail en mer. Lorsqu'il est à terre, l'officier de guerre navale fait une journée normale de travail dans un environnement de bureau.
Qualification militaire de base :
Après votre enrôlement, vous commencerez la qualification militaire de base des officiers de 12 semaines à l'École de leadership et de recrues des Forces canadiennes de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, au Québec. Les sujets abordés comprennent : les connaissances militaires générales, les principes du leadership, les règlements et coutumes des Forces, les rudiments du maniement des armes et les premiers soins.
Instruction spécialisée :
Après six mois d'application pratique de votre formation professionnelle, vous vous spécialiserez pendant de quatre à six mois dans un des domaines suivants : navigation maritime, direction d'armes de surface ou sous-marines, gestion des systèmes d'information et de communication, service à bord d'un sous-marin, déminage par plongeur ou plan d'enrôlement direct.
