Job Opportunity

New Westminster Schools is seeking a qualified Learning Support Teacher to join our team. As a Learning Support Teacher, you will work closely with a collaborative team of teachers to provide support services to students with diverse learning needs.

About the Role

This is a temporary full-time and part-time position available at our Elementary, Middle, and Secondary levels. The successful candidate will have a valid BC Teachers Certificate in Elementary education and a diploma or master's degree in Special Education.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct service to students in small group, pull-out, and push-in situations
  • Support teachers in differentiating, adapting, and modifying curricula, instruction, and assessment
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to advocate for inclusion and support students with diverse learning needs
  • Draft, review, and revise IEPs for a wide range of students
  • Write and/or implement Functional Behaviour Assessments and Positive Behaviour Support Plans
Requirements
  • Valid BC Teachers Certificate in Elementary education
  • Diploma or master's degree in Special Education
  • Level B Assessment qualification (EPSE 421 or equivalent)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Advocate of inclusion and of students with diverse learning needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience at level as required by the positions
  • Drafting, reviewing, and revising IEPs for a wide range of students
  • Writing and/or implementing Functional Behaviour Assessments and Positive Behaviour Support Plans
