Job Title: Secondary Teacher - Construction Technology

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Secondary Teacher - Construction Technology to join our team at the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Construction Technology to students in grades 10 and 11.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Construction Technology to students in grades 10 and 11
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of all students
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to curriculum development
  • Supervise students during construction projects and ensure a safe working environment
  • Collaborate with other teachers to develop and implement integrated curriculum
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in teaching and learning

Requirements:

  • Basic qualifications to teach in the Intermediate and Senior Divisions - Technological Studies, Construction Technology
  • Candidates with pending or Transitional Certificate of qualifications in Construction Technology, with Intermediate and Senior divisional qualifications
  • Understanding of the adolescent learner and experience working with adolescents
  • High degree of competency in health and safety standards that govern the various sectors of the construction industry
  • Understanding of the required safety measures as part of the Ministry's Student Injury Prevention Initiative
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Five years of experience using a variety of construction materials, processes, tools and equipment
  • Experience with building design and planning construction projects
  • Commitment to supporting the use of technology in instruction and learning, and to promoting an environment of innovation and creativity that engages the 21st century learner
  • Knowledge of the Ontario building code, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and other regulations and standards and how they apply to construction
  • Knowledge, experience and proven ability in utilizing differentiated instructional approaches within the classroom that support effective instruction
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom management strategies
  • Willingness to actively assume extra-curricular duties
  • Knowledge of, and familiarity with, the school community
