We are seeking an experienced engagement practitioner to join our Civic Engagement and Communications Division as a temporary full-time Engagement Specialist. This role will support public processes that build trust with the community, increase transparency, and improve access to government.

Job Description

This position sits within the Civic Engagement and Communications Division and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced engagement specialist looking to join a new and growing team. The successful candidate will co-develop and help implement engagement plans for staff teams, provide guidance and support on meaningful strategies and tactics for involving residents, partners, and interest holders in shaping and realizing the City's strategic and annual plans, as well as ongoing initiatives to build trust and improve the quality and reach of public participation.

The successful candidate will also help develop clear and accessible reports on the results of engagement processes. This is a strong team with a service-driven culture where each day presents fresh challenges and opportunities to tangibly impact the lives of City of North Vancouver's residents, businesses, partners, and visitors.

Required Skills and Qualifications

We are seeking an engagement practitioner with demonstrated skills in public process design, convening and facilitation, participatory research including quantitative and qualitative analysis, digital engagement, and a commitment to collaborative and peer-based learning and coaching. Your qualifications include a degree in one of the following areas: Planning, Communications, Community Development, Public Policy or a related discipline. You will have considerable experience in an engagement and/or community relations position in a government or intergovernmental setting, and/or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience including developing and implementing engagement plans on complex initiatives. Certification in facilitation and/or the International Association of Public Participation and a commitment to working with equity-deserving communities are assets.
