Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team in Abbotsford, B.C. as a Casual position. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing cardiac ultrasound procedures, including echocardiography and Doppler studies, and providing preliminary assessments for review and interpretation by the Radiologist/Cardiologist.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Receives and prepares patients for testing by reviewing requisitions, correlating clinical history with examination to be performed, and positioning patients for procedures.
  2. Performs cardiac studies, such as 2D, M-mode, and Doppler, by setting equipment to produce accurate images and obtaining and recording cardiac ultrasound views and measurements in accordance with department standards.
  3. Monitors patients during procedures by observing and responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergency situations in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  4. Reviews and records pertinent patient history and supportive clinical data.
  5. Provides a preliminary assessment for review and interpretation by the Radiologist/Cardiologist by recording information obtained from the scan on a department-specific Cardiac Sonography worksheet.
  6. Maintains a comprehensive record of patients' cardiac ultrasound logs as per established standards and enters data into the radiology and hospital information systems as required.
  7. Ensures proper maintenance of ultrasound equipment, including routine cleaning of filters and outer surfaces, monitoring its operation, and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
  8. Provides education and training to patients, staff, and students on cardiac ultrasound procedures and equipment usage.
  9. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives, including monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
  10. Requisitions in-house stock and forwards purchase order requests to the supervisor for approval and signature.
  11. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements and practices.
Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography and certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA). Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course or applicable experience working in IV Therapy or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience when required by site practice.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide high-quality patient care. They will also have a strong understanding of cardiac ultrasound principles and practices, as well as the ability to operate related equipment.
