Overview

At Provincial Health Services Authority, we are seeking a skilled Senior Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team in the Cervical Cancer Screening Laboratory. As a key member of our lab, you will be responsible for performing gynecological cytology screening and ensuring the highest quality results.

About the Role

This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive salary range of $83,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience. You will work Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm or 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at our Vancouver location.

Responsibilities

  • Perform gynecological cytology screening in accordance with established procedures and workload expectations, including independent signing out of specimens with negative results.
  • Record interpretation results on computerized forms for all screened cases.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in Cytotechnology through methods such as reviewing relevant literature, consulting with other professionals, and attending relevant education programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of current procedures through methods such as reviewing written reporting rules and updates.
  • Participate in lab safety awareness projects and maintain a safe and healthy workstation environment by following established safety procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) as a Cytotechnologist.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Cytotechnology, plus three months' recent, related gynecological cytology screening experience or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to concentrate on microscope work in a demanding environment for many hours at a time.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and use related software.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory quality management procedures.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the job.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
