We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer Lead to join our Software Engineering Group at Aviva Canada.

About the Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a collaborative and resourceful individual with 5+ years of experience in backend development to lead our team's efforts. As a senior developer, you will be responsible for designing, coding, and maintaining high-performing web applications with a focus on product availability, performance, and security.

You will participate in various aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including planning, construction, testing, reviews, and demonstrations. Your expertise will be essential in developing and reviewing software requirements, building design documents, writing programs, and packaging, testing, configuring, and deploying software.

Additionally, you will work closely with clients, product managers, analysts, architects, and engineers to plan, design, develop, test, and implement information technology solutions efficiently.

We are looking for someone with outstanding technical skills, particularly in Core Java and Spring Boot, as well as experience with REST API and web services. Knowledge of database systems such as Oracle and Mongo is also essential. Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for success in this role.

About You
  • University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • At least 5 years of experience in a backend development role, preferably 2+ years in a senior position
  • Excellent knowledge of Core Java and Spring Boot
  • Outstanding experience with REST API and web services
  • Familiarity with database systems such as Oracle and Mongo
  • Able to read code in other languages and reverse engineer products
  • Experience with Application Program Interfaces (APIs) and Messaging
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies
