Job Description

The Surgical Day Care team at Halton Healthcare is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse with strong surgical experience to support the operational growth within the surgical program.

This role involves providing patient-focused care in the outpatient environment as an active member of a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with other healthcare professionals in the planning and implementation of care for a wide variety of surgical cases.

The ideal candidate will possess strong critical thinking skills, a caring and compassionate attitude, and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.

A current BCLS certification is also necessary at time of hire.

Recent experience with ophthalmology pre and post-op is preferred, as well as experience with orthopedic patients, especially total joint replacements.

The successful candidate will also possess knowledge of pain management and have experience with Acute Pain Service.

Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to function in a fast-paced environment and to work independently within the scope of practice.

The ideal candidate will also have strong skills in IV insertion and be proficient in aseptic technique, wound care, ostomy care, CBI care, foley catheter insertion and management, IV care and management, and blood product administration and monitoring.

Basic computer skills, including the Order Entry module of Meditech, are also required.
