Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to histology, including specimen processing, tissue sectioning, and staining.

Key Responsibilities
  • Access and process specimens, ensuring accurate and timely results
  • Examine and describe gross surgical specimens, including dissecting and measuring tissue types
  • Embed and section tissue blocks, checking embedding logs for errors or discrepancies
  • Cut paraffin wax tissue blocks using a microtome, and prepare slides for staining and examination
  • Operate and maintain IHC stainers and other laboratory equipment
  • Perform frozen sections and correlate cut slides to tissue blocks
  • Cut deeper levels as required, and file and archive slides and blocks
  • Assist with MLA duties as needed
Requirements
  • Medical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certification
  • Minimum five years recent experience in general histology in a hospital setting
  • Immunohistochemistry experience is preferred
  • Current registration with CMLTO in good standing
  • Ability to distinguish colors and work with surgical and autopsy specimens
  • Strong medical terminology and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of LabLion, Meditech, Paradigm, and other Microsoft Office computer systems is an asset

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working days, evenings, nights, including weekends and statutory holidays. You must be available to attend Osler sites after hours and during emergencies, as required.
