About the Role:

This position supports the care of clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges at the BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date client records by collecting and documenting relevant information, including health care details and nursing observations.
  • Develops and implements individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.
  • Provides direct patient care, working closely with the interdisciplinary team to assess, monitor, and evaluate client progress, and to reorganize priorities as needed.
  • Teaches clients and their families by providing information, demonstrating procedures, and checking the learner's understanding.
  • Identifies and addresses own learning needs, reviews these with the Nursing Supervisor, and engages in activities to meet these needs.
  • Promotes a supportive learning environment by preceptoring and role-modeling for staff and students.

Requirements:

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Graduation from a recognized diploma program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
  • At least one year of recent experience in a substance use and mental health care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
