Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate an excavator/hoe and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent downtime.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate, and refill as necessary to ensure smooth operation.
  • Collaborate with ground personnel to execute excavation and installation processes, including laying pipe online and grading.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth and grade, meeting project specifications.
  • Responsible for placing water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation, working closely with ground crew.
  • Follow directions from ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading to ensure efficient project progression.
  • Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to maintain production schedules.

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, exposing the individual to various weather conditions, including inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • May require working overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 20 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Possible out-of-town work may be required on a project basis.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with experience in related construction activities.
  • 2-3 years' experience operating an excavator/hoe and other heavy equipment is required.
  • Valid Ground Disturbance certificate.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, processes, and industry requirements.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License, with a clean Driver Abstract.
