About the Role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will serve as a scientific resource for Canadian experts in the field of Diabetes, Obesity and related disorders. The MSL's primary responsibility is to respond to requests for in-depth, cutting-edge scientific information from the medical community in these fields, including the latest scientific literature, research from major scientific conferences, updates on our educational activities and pipeline research activities.

The MSL will also gather feedback and insights from Scientific Experts and Thought Leaders to inform our research and strategic direction. By facilitating scientific exchange between the academic community and our company, the MSL has the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare with information addressing important clinical and scientific questions.

In all interactions, the MSL is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines, rules and regulations for conducting research, our Code of Conduct, policies and procedures, and other prevailing regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with the scientific community;
  • Provide deep and advanced disease state and product information to external customers;
  • Facilitate the work of Scientific Experts when aligned with our mission;
  • Connect thought leaders and scientific experts with our resources, such as Discovery, Real World Evidence Scientists, Clinical Research Physicians and Global/Canadian External Research & Development;

An essential aspect of this role is to connect thought leaders and scientific experts with our resources, while being considered a reliable and trusted source of accurate, up-to-date medical and scientific knowledge requested by our customers.

The MSL will continually enhance their scientific knowledge within therapeutic areas to engage in scientific discussions with Scientific Experts. They will attend relevant scientific meetings, conduct routine literature searches and communicate regularly with other MSLs.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Gather and report clinical insights and unanswered questions received from Scientific Experts to the medical and cross-functional teams;
  • Interface with Scientific Experts and internal business partners, such as Clinical Research Physicians, Medical Information Associates, Medical Education, Corporate Affairs, and Marketing;
  • Understand and effectively utilize approved resources, administrative, procedural and legal requirements to address customer needs and support internal business objectives.

This role requires not only scientific and customer expertise but also the ability to understand and effectively utilize approved resources, and administrative, procedural and legal requirements.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An advanced degree in health sciences (PhD, MD, Pharm D) with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic experience in Diabetes;
  • MSc in healthcare/professional designation (BScN, PT, RD etc.) considered if 5 or more years of relevant clinical experience in Diabetes;
  • Previous MSL experience and sound knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry;
  • Languages: English; French an asset;
  • Territory & Travel: Coverage territory is mostly Eastern Ontario, including Ottawa & surrounding area, with some potential travel to northern and central Ontario.
