Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Specialist

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our team as an Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Specialist. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse populations and provide high-quality care in community settings.
Job Summary
As an Aboriginal Mental Health Nurse Specialist, you will be responsible for providing clinical mental health nursing services to Aboriginal clients in community programs. You will work closely with interprofessional care teams to assess clients' mental status, formulate plans of care, implement planned care, and evaluate outcomes. Your expertise will enable you to develop culturally sensitive mental health services and provide education to clients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide initial and ongoing mental health and substance use client assessments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and their families
- Work with local community agencies to enhance and maintain existing Aboriginal mental health services
- Develop and deliver educational events to clients and their families on topics essential to their healthcare and well-being
- Facilitate referrals to other healthcare professionals and community services as needed
- Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes according to practice standards and procedures
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing
- Two years of recent experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or concurrent disorders, including one year of experience working with Aboriginal clients
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a substance use certificate program
- Knowledge of legislation and government policies related to mental health and substance use practices
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal clients, both verbally and in writing
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
