About the Role

We're seeking a Clinical Support Professional - Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team in Ottawa and surrounding areas. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests. This is a permanent full-time float position that offers a dynamic and challenging work environment with opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using skillful venipuncture techniques
  • Conduct other patient tests as required, including ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity testing, urine analysis, drug screening, and breath alcohol collections
  • Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed accurately and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and healthcare providers, ensuring a positive experience at every interaction
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, and contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics and regulatory compliance

Requirements:

  • Secondary school diploma and completion of a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proven ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming, and reassuring manner
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables clear communication with patients and healthcare providers
