Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Cook Grill Specialist to join our team at one of our three professional City Golf Courses. Reporting to the Food & Beverage Operations Team Lead, the successful candidate will engage in the preparation of a variety of a la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, including banquet and buffet functions.

Key Responsibilities

The Cook Grill Specialist will be responsible for preparing light meals and short orders from an established menu, working in a team environment to adhere to the principles of proper food handling, preparation, and storage. They will prepare various foods, including vegetables, meats, soups, salads, and baking, by following standardized recipes and methods as determined by their direct supervisor.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the plating and presentation of food to specifications, cooking for a varying number of guests during peak and non-peak times, and providing consistent results. They will maintain a clean kitchen, following hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules, and performing other related tasks, such as washing dishes, pots, pans, storage areas, and floors as required.

Requirements

  • High school education preferred
  • Valid Food Safe Certification is required
  • Valid Serving it Right certification is a strong asset
  • Experience with preparing and cooking a la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals
  • Experience cooking for banquet or buffet events
  • Experience working in a similar unionized Food and Beverage team environment is desired

Desirable Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate, maintain, and clean standard cooking and kitchen equipment
  • Working knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 kg
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service
