Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Operations Supervisor to join our team at the University Health Network. As a key member of our Laboratory Medicine Program, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our pre-analytic services department, ensuring the highest level of quality and efficiency in our laboratory practices and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Directly supervise laboratory personnel, mobile phlebotomy and ECG teams, outpatient test centers, and customer service staff
    • Ensure compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable legislation
  • Operational Management
    • Coordinate the delivery of professional development programs and facilitate access to education for assigned personnel
    • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory
    • Ensure adherence to quality initiatives and recommend new or revised quality programs, guidelines, and measurements
  • Financial Management
    • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of the operational budget in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager
    • Assist with the preparation of the capital budget in consultation with the Medical Director and Laboratory Manager
  • Communication and Liaison
    • Maintain liaison with internal digital, patient relations, clinical, nursing, transport, and facilities teams to ensure smooth operation and troubleshoot operational problems
    • Participate in the on-call rotation and travel to UHN and external client sites as required
Requirements
  • Completion of a 3-year college program in Medical Laboratory Technology or recognized equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Health Administration or recognized equivalent
  • 3-4 years of practical experience providing care in a hospital/medical environment with increased leadership/management responsibilities
  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a laboratory environment
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development
