Career Development Advisor

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications for the position of Career Development Advisor. This is a 35 hour per week assignment and falls within the O.S.S.T.F. - P.S.S.P. Bargaining Unit.
Nature & Scope of Position:
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a fair, inclusive, antiracist environment for all stakeholders. They will work with other individuals on the Equity and school staff to identify and support racialized students, developing strategies to motivate them to stay in school and experience success.
The Career Development Advisor will liaise with parents/guardians, family members, and school staff to ensure identified students have adequate transportation, study time, and regular attendance at school. They will relate to participating students on a personal level, helping them develop self-respect, internal motivation, and appropriate decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
The successful candidate will motivate, build self-esteem, and heighten academic achievement in participating students. They will engage students in one-on-one counselling, tutoring, enrichment, group activities, leadership building, and/or career mentoring to develop successful intervention strategies. They will also provide students with time management skills, work ethics, and appropriate behavior.
Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have fluency in a language in addition to English, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate across cultures in different social settings. They will also have superior conflict resolution skills, a high degree of enthusiasm, motivation, self-direction, and commitment to achieving the program's goals and objectives. Reliable transportation is required as travel is necessary between school and community locations.
