Electrical Transportation Systems Designer

As an Electrical Transportation Systems Designer, you will be a part of the Transportation electrical team, of the Building sector, based in Markham office. Your work environment at EXP will be dynamic and challenging, with opportunities to grow and develop your skills. Here's what a day at EXP has in store for you:

  • Prepare detailed designs for transportation electrical systems using AutoCAD and or Microstation.
  • Conduct detailed calculations such as voltage drop, illumination, conductor and conduit sizing, and grounding to ensure that designs meet relevant engineering standards and applicable codes.
  • Perform complete lighting analysis using AGi32.
  • Perform Traffic signal design.
  • Design of electrical layouts for cable raceways/underground conduits, lighting, panel schedules design, lighting poles and base details, luminaire schedule, electrical grounding.
  • Coordination with Designers and Engineers from other disciplines.
  • Perform site visits and contract administration.
  • Preparing Contract documents, including specifications and cost estimates.

What your experience looks like
  • An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited University.
  • Minimum of (4) years continuous experience in detailed design and design consultancy.
  • Knowledge of IES-RP-8 and Roadway lighting and Parking lot lighting.
  • Knowledge of OPSD, OPSS, TAC and OTM manuals would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in Transportation and Transit projects is a must.
  • Experience with advanced lighting design tools (AGi32) would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and SPIDACalc.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards (CSA, OBC, NFPA, AREMA and IEEE standards).
  • Experience with electrical design tools/software such as ETAP, and SKM would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical calculations (short circuit, load flow, protection coordination, arc flash, cable sizing, and lighting design) would be considered an asset.
