Job Overview

The Corporate Legal Strategist will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, supporting the executive team in making informed business decisions. This role will be responsible for assessing and improving our overall legal framework to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing high-level legal strategies that align with our business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to maintaining efficient and effective legal documents, working closely with senior leaders to drive business growth and minimize risk.

Responsibilities

Board Reporting

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely and accurate information to enable management to make informed business decisions
  • Attend board meetings, prepare minutes, and track action items and Board workplans
  • Identify key business risks and provide regular updates to the Board
  • Assemble meaningful packages and information for the Board of Directors

Legal Framework:

  • Develop and maintain a cohesive legal framework that balances business risks with contractual obligations
  • Review and update standard legal documentation to support business growth and market expansion
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with customers, suppliers, and third parties
  • Support transaction-related activities, including acquisitions, due diligence, and corporate governance

Senior Management Team Member:

  • Function as a legal partner to the executive team, supporting operations, business development, sales, and corporate functions
  • Assess and improve business strategies, overseeing their execution and implementation
  • Provide recommendations for procedural and structural improvements
  • Ensure smooth operations through legal support provided by you and outside firms

Estimated Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A JD/LLB degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing of the Ontario Law Society
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in a similar role
  • Experience working within various industries and companies, with the ability to adapt quickly to new concepts and office cultures
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Protection Act and other relevant laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Dynamic leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and drive results-oriented performance
