Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary:
The Kitchen Assistant - Food Preparation Specialist is a critical role within our community at Aspira Riverbend Crossing Memory Care, impacting the lives of residents and igniting the warmth of human connection.
This is a Permanent Casual (On-Call position) that requires flexibility and availability to work a variety of shifts, including mornings and afternoons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
- Prepare food and ingredients following standardized recipes, adhering to food safety standards and prescribed practices.
- Receive, check, and store food and supply deliveries, monitoring quality and quantity, and advising the team leader on duty of any issues.
- Assist with the delivery, set-up, and removal of food for special events, buffets, and catered functions.
- Complete assigned cleaning tasks according to instructions and cleaning schedules, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the team leader.
Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 12 education.
- Minimum one year experience in volume food preparation, catering, and special event preparation in the Hospitality or Retirement Residences industry.
- Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Good public relations and communication skills.
- Positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
- Physical ability to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for the majority of the shift.
- Successful completion of the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Qualifications:
