We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team at Surrey Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our Anatomic Pathology department, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures, analyzing results, and communicating test results to healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain laboratory samples from patients as required.
- Perform laboratory procedures and analyze results according to established policies.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, standards, and controls for use in analysis.
- Respond to requests and inquiries for test results.
- Communicate test results to healthcare teams.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance and identify equipment malfunctions.
- Assist in evaluating technical procedures and developing policy procedures.
- Participate in departmental training and orientation programs.
- Assist with information management and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Requirements
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- One year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests.
- Basic awareness of research process.
- Interpersonal skills, including effective communication and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Basic knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
- Ability to operate related equipment and software.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments.
