Position Overview:
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing revisions to existing technical publications and creating new ones in accordance with prescribed specifications and standards. As a member of our Publication's team, you will maintain comprehensive and accurate technical information for use in Operation and Maintenance Manuals and other types of Technical Publications. Reporting to the Technical Publications Supervisor, you will craft documentation intended for technical personnel while collaborating with all key stakeholders, including Managers, Engineers, QA, and fellow Technical Writers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transform supplied technical data into markup languages (SGML, HTML, or XML) for creation of hard copy, electronic, or web-based publications.
- E nsure that the technical data reflects the latest system/equipment configuration.
- Work as part of the Technical Publications team to successfully meet all project priorities and deadlines while following departmental writing/editing practices and procedures.
- Develop clear and concise material and provide instructions for supporting illustrations when required.
- Ensure all product produced is logically presented, consistent with appropriate specifications/standards, and meets customer requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Ability to understand markup languages such as SGML/XML and HTML.
- Proficiency in various PC tools and software applications.
- Familiarity with Configuration Management.
- Post-secondary education required, preferably in a technical writing capacity or equivalent education.
- Experience in technical writing or comparable role preferred.
- Familiarity with S1000D, ATA, CALs, and MIL/STD Specifications would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of common Aircraft, Naval, or Land mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems would be considered an asset.
- Knowledgeable in the use of at least two of the following software platforms used in the creation of Technical Publications: Adobe Framemaker, InDesign, Arbortext Epic Editor, Adobe Acrobat Pro, or comparable software.
- Collaboration skills and experience are considered assets.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills with attention to detail.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Preference given to applicants capable of authoring in both official languages.
- Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Canadian government security clearances.
About the Opportunity:
This full-time position comes with a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including RSP program, tuition reimbursement program, long service awards, volunteer grant program, scholarship program, and more.
