Job Title: GIS Technician

Join the City of St. Catharines team as a GIS Technician and contribute to the development and maintenance of our geographic information systems.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for converting existing drawings and records into a digital format, integrating data into a central spatial database repository, and preparing graphics and reports from central data repositories.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Convert existing drawings, sketches, and records into a digital format and integrate them into a central spatial database repository.
  • Prepare graphics, reports, and mapping products from central data repositories or disparate data sets.
  • Update, maintain, and verify digital mapping of parcels and infrastructure assets.
  • Retrieve, assemble, and collate information from in-house records and transmit it electronically or in writing to inquiring public or staff.
  • Exchange information with city field crews and utilities on underground plant locations.
  • Perform trigonometric calculations for verifying and augmenting survey measurements.
  • Classify, index, file, and retrieve various plans and records.
  • Operate large format plotters, high-resolution scanners, and other equipment.
Requirements:
  • College diploma in Geomatics with an emphasis on Geographic Information Technology.
  • One year of experience in Geographic Information Systems, preferably using the ESRI GIS platform in a municipal environment.
  • Experience using Autodesk products (AutoCad/Map and Civil 3D).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting Engineering, Architectural, Topographic, and Survey plan types.
  • Agreement to enter into a separate confidentiality agreement for access to corporate data repositories.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license, Class "G", with a clean driving record.
What We Offer:

CUPE 157 Pay Group 8 – Minimum $67,043 annually; Maximum $75,285 annually.

Expected Work Location: City Hall

Hours of Work: Currently Monday - Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm
