Job Summary

As a key member of the Regional Municipality of York's finance team, the Senior Financial Advisor will provide financial planning, budgeting, and analysis support to ensure the effective management of the organization's financial resources. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and budgeting, with experience in designing and implementing financial systems and databases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial reports, analyzing budget variances and financial activity.
  • Design and maintain financial reports using the Region's Financial Information System.
  • Implement and administer financial information system modules.
  • Develop and maintain performance indicators to measure service efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Collect and input statistical data into operational reports.
  • Liaise with the Finance Department to ensure compliance with municipal accounting practices.
  • Maintain asset management, including infrastructure life cycle costing and capital replacement reserve funding.
  • Design and maintain financial database software applications.
  • Prepare and coordinate annual budgets and business plans.

Requirements
  • University degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or related field.
  • Professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CPA) and registration with the Ontario Association.
  • Experience in financial system design and implementation.
  • Ability to apply the Region's core competencies.
  • Knowledge of related municipal, provincial, and federal legislation, policies, and procedures.
