About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Procurement Agent to join our team at Canadian National Railway. As a key member of our procurement team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our business requirements are met through effective procurement practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that procured services meet business requirements and are obtained cost-effectively.
  • Monitor workload queues and action requests in a timely manner.
  • Act as main support and provide onboarding training to complex services suppliers to ensure supplier compliance with invoicing best practices.
  • Source, negotiate, and purchase non-category, tactical services required by business units for anything with an annual spend of $1M or less.
  • Assess order progress against plan, identify alternatives to improve order progress, and expedite orders as necessary.
  • Complete purchasing activities by drafting and revising Purchase Orders (PO) as per Business Unit's requirements, seeking appropriate authorization, and informing the supplier.
  • Maintain data integrity on all inputs by comparing items requested to master data, ensuring a suitable item is not already available through existing commercial arrangements, and clarifying unclear items.
  • Collaborate with Category Managers, Category Analysts, and Technology team to support the development and execution of savings opportunities, efficiencies, process improvements, and supplier performance management activities.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs as business needs arise.
Working Conditions

Expected to work 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, with a start time no later than 8:30 am and an end time not earlier than 4:00 pm. Dress code is business casual.

Requirements
  • Relevant work experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a customer support role, planning, sourcing, negotiating, contracting, and supplier management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Technology Management, Supply Chain/Operations, Commerce, or Management Science.
  • Strong business acumen, time management, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and invoicing requirements to internal functions and suppliers.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adhere to business-critical deadlines.
  • Ability to apply analytical thinking and solve problems.
  • Good operational procurement skills and procurement process and systems expertise.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Excel, with beginner to intermediate skills in any coding language.
  • Understanding of RFQ and RFI processes, methods of ordering and payment, and market dynamics.
  • General understanding of commercial and contract terms and conditions.
  • Any experience with RPA or ERP implementations is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant SAP/Ariba/eProcurement/Fieldglass modules is also considered an asset.
