Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our team as the Chief Academic Innovation Officer, Faculty of Arts at Thompson Rivers University. This is a five-year renewable term appointment as a tenured faculty member.

About the Role

The Chief Academic Innovation Officer will provide strategic leadership and direction in the development and quality assurance of flexible learning options for certificates, diplomas, programs, and courses offered by the Faculty of Arts. This includes leading the development and implementation of new educational resources and programs, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic plan, and overseeing academic integrity cases originating from online and blended delivery methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Flexible Delivery Program Innovation:
    • Collaborate with academic leadership and staff to identify, initiate, and coordinate flexible learning educational courses and programs.
    • Oversee the development and updates of academic contents for synchronous, asynchronous, and blended models of delivery.
    • Assist in strategic planning, market analysis, capacity assessment, and resource demand for flexible delivery program innovation.
    • Work with department chairs, faculty, and staff to identify new flexible learning options and align them with the Faculty's Strategic Plan.
  • Quality Assurance: Flexible Delivery:
    • Align certificates, diplomas, programs, and courses offered through face-to-face and flexible delivery options (synchronous, asynchronous, and blended models).
    • Manage TRU's Senate approval processes for new, major, and minor changes to certificates, diplomas, programs, and courses offered through the flexible learning option.
    • Review and approve student program plans and graduation audits for all Faculty of Arts programs offered through the TRU OL Unit.
  • Academic Integrity:
    • Oversee and perform duties related to processing academic integrity cases originating within Faculty of Arts through face-to-face, online, and blended delivery methods.
    • Liaise with directors to oversee online student academic accommodations and appeals and other academic oversight responsibilities.
Requirements

We are looking for a professional with a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and a strong commitment to collegiality and consensus building across organizational, disciplinary, and program boundaries. The successful candidate will have experience in curriculum development, policy creation, and academic approval and program review processes. They will also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and conflict management skills.

Working Conditions

This position is based on campus in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. It is not a remote position, and the successful candidate is expected to work on campus.
