Job Title: Director of Digital Platforms

MacEwan University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Digital Platforms to lead our IT service delivery team. As a key member of our Information Services department, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective provision of front-facing IT services and building a culture of service excellence within the department and the university as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals, vision, and standards for Digital Platforms & Delivery in conjunction with IT leadership, administrative and academic units, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee and ensure the development and maintenance of integrated digital solutions.
  • Establish and maintain the network backbone, including infrastructure to connect to the internet and end-point network devices.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Enterprise Architecture to research emerging technologies that support Platform Services to increase cost-effectiveness and flexibility.
  • Establish measures of success for implementation of Digital Platforms & Delivery initiatives and oversee ongoing monitoring of initiatives in progress as well as those which have been implemented.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Digital Platforms & Delivery team and the broader organization.
  • Identify opportunities and develop business case justifications for spending and initiatives, including identification of risks and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Manage employee labour relations and employee/overall team performance, including conducting ongoing workforce engagement conversations, resolving conflicts between staff, initiating and monitoring progress during the performance management process, imposing progressive discipline and conducting employee terminations as required, in collaboration with HR, and in alignment with university policy and MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
  • Attend industry functions and participate in professional associations, if applicable, to keep current with industry trends, competitive environment, benchmarks, opportunities and challenges, ensuring a strong network of industry colleagues and resources.
Requirements:
  • A master's degree in business, computing science or a related field.
  • Significant years of progressively responsible experience in IT, including managing a wide variety of development and operational roles.
  • Experience with relevant areas of information technology, including operations, application development and support, software as a solution (SaaS), network administration, cloud infrastructure, data centre management, and vendor management.
  • Ability to communicate a vision, motivate a team, and create a collaborative, innovative culture that stimulates creative thinking and a will to seek excellence.
  • Energetic and initiative-taking, with the ability to drive projects forward and achieve success.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to consider many sources of information and evaluate source material objectively and pragmatically.
