Job Title: Insurance and Risk Management Leader

Job Summary:

George Brown College is seeking an experienced Insurance and Risk Management Leader to join our team. As a key member of our Strategic Planning and Institutional Analysis division, you will be responsible for overseeing all matters pertaining to our insurance portfolio, including managing claims, renewing policies, and providing expert advice to stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement cost-effective insurance programs for business operations, working closely with stakeholders to project manage incidents and third-party claims in a timely manner to reduce reputational and monetary damage.
  • Presents and reports to the Finance and Property Committee, leads insurance discussions at the Senior Management Committee, and supports the CFO and Senior Vice-President of Institutional Planning, AVP Strategy, Planning, and Risk, and other Corporate Management Committee members in the preparation of Board materials.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to ensure sound risk and insurance governance principles are developed at all levels of the organization.
  • Provides quantitative and numerical analysis and research to generate recommendations and insights to drive outcomes.
  • Develops new processes, enhances existing processes, and ensures implementation for effective oversight of the claims management function, working directly with insurers to respond to claims.
  • Responsible for supporting the development, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the GBC-wide risk management framework/program and initiatives that align with GBC's strategic and business plans to enhance the culture of risk management and mitigation.
  • Supports the development, monitoring, and communication of new and redesigned policies, business processes, and practices in support of GBC, Strategic Planning and Institutional Analysis, and Finance Division initiatives, ensuring the team provides accurate interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and practices related to their processes.
  • Conducts college-wide, multi-disciplinary risk assessment and validation initiatives to ensure integration with GBC's strategic and business planning cycles.

Requirements:

  • Four-year degree from a recognized post-secondary institute in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration, or related field.
  • PECB Certified ISO 19600 Lead Compliance Manager (similar designation as CRM mentioned below).
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or similar designation is beneficial.
  • Masters in Public Administration is preferred.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' compliance experience in commercial insurance. Experience at a post-secondary institution is a plus.
