Job Description

The Sample Preparation Technician is a key role within the ARD (Acid Rock Drainage) group at SGS, responsible for performing routine tasks to prepare geological materials for analysis. This includes sorting, transferring, drying, crushing, pulverizing, and screening samples in accordance with client work order instructions and laboratory quality guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack, sort, and transfer samples to ensure they are ready for analysis.
  • Execute crushing, pulverizing, and screening of geological materials as per SGS Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct routine quality checks, including particle size analysis and dust loss, reporting results to the Supervisor or group leader if they are outside acceptable parameters.
  • Ensure work order documentation is complete and accurate, with QC results entered into SLIMS as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workbench area, adhering to laboratory procedures for spills and disposal.
  • Ensure equipment is in good working order, reporting any damage or defects to the Supervisor or group leader.
  • Keep records and notebooks in good order, including work order and equipment maintenance logs.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school Diploma.
  • Experience: 0-1 year of relevant work experience or equivalent experience through education.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and afternoons when necessary.
