Job Summary

The Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for performing routine tasks in the ARD group, including sorting, transferring, drying, crushing, pulverizing, and screening of geological materials. The position requires adherence to client work order instructions and laboratory quality guidelines and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Unpack, sort, transfer, and dry samples.
  • Execute crushing, pulverizing, and screening of geological materials according to SGS' Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct routine quality checks, including particle size analysis, dust loss, and report data to the Supervisor or group leader if results are outside of acceptability parameters.
  • Ensure work order documentation is complete and QC results are entered into SLIMS as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workbench area, ensuring spills are immediately cleaned and disposed of according to laboratory procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good order and report any damaged or defective equipment to the Supervisor or group leader.
  • Keep records and notebooks in good order, including work order and equipment maintenance logs.
  • May be required to work in other areas of the Geochemistry laboratory sections.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school Diploma.
  • Experience: 0-1 years of relevant work experience required or equivalent experience through education.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and afternoons when necessary.
