Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health. In this role, you will work under the direction of a therapist to implement rehabilitation treatment plans and programs, assisting clients in achieving their goals and improving their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan and/or program, including activities of daily living, mobility, strengthening and balance exercises/activities, and leisure therapy.
  • Provide functional skills training to clients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication, integrating with other client supports within the community.
  • Observe and report cognitive and functional changes in clients' abilities or behavior to the therapist, warranting a progression or regression of the treatment plan.
  • Progress treatment plans within the parameters established by the therapist, consulting with the interdisciplinary team as needed.
  • Perform various tests, such as the Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go, and six-minute walk test, as assigned.
  • Document client information in the health record according to practice standards and program guidelines, completing required reports and administrative duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate the use of assistive devices to clients and their families, assisting with manual and power wheelchair mobility training.
  • Prepare, modify, and organize equipment, such as splints, seating, and exercise devices, mobility, and assistive devices.
  • Set up and adapt equipment, installing ADL equipment for trial, changing wheelchair backs, and adjusting wheelchair height.
  • Provide education to clients, family, and other healthcare providers on patient lifts, transfers, positioning of clients, and good body mechanics.
  • Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities, such as cognitive retraining, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, applying orthotics and/or prosthetics, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, hot packs, and ice treatments.
  • Prioritize, organize, and schedule daily workload, coordinating and communicating with the Manager, Clinical Operations or designate.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and supplies, cleaning equipment and maintaining inventories, providing input on the purchase of new equipment and supplies, and reporting malfunctioning equipment and/or supply needs.
  • Advocate for clients by problem-solving in areas such as accessing community resources, teaching community integration skills, and use of alternate transportation.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program, plus one year recent related clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
