Job Title: Urban Planner

The City of Dawson is seeking an experienced Urban Planner to join our team. As an Urban Planner, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our city by developing and implementing plans for land use, transportation, and community development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile and analyze data on factors affecting land use to inform planning decisions
  • Develop and recommend plans for zoning, subdivisions, transportation, public utilities, community facilities, parks, and other land uses
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of urban planning technicians and technologists
  • Confer with authorities and interest groups to formulate and develop land use or community plans
  • Present plans to civic, rural, and regional authorities and hold public meetings
  • Review and evaluate proposals for land use and development plans and prepare recommendations
  • Process applications for land development permits
  • Administer land use plans and zoning by-laws
  • Formulate long-range objectives and policies relative to future land use and the protection of the environment
  • Conduct research and plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate daily operations
Requirements:
  • 2 years to less than 3 years of experience in urban planning
  • Driver's License
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners
  • ArcGIS
  • SAP (FI/CO / HR / MM / OT SD)
  • MS Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately
