Job Title: Urban Planner

We are seeking an experienced Urban Planner to join our team at The City of Dawson. As an Urban Planner, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our city by developing and implementing plans for land use, transportation, and community development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile and analyze data on factors affecting land use, including demographic trends, economic indicators, and environmental considerations.
  • Develop and recommend plans for zoning, subdivisions, transportation, public utilities, community facilities, parks, agricultural, and other land uses.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of urban planning technicians and technologists.
  • Confer with appropriate authorities and interest groups to formulate and develop land use or community plans.
  • Present plans to civic, rural, and regional authorities and hold public meetings.
  • Review and evaluate proposals for land use and development plans and prepare recommendations.
  • Process applications for land development permits.
  • Administer land use plans and zoning by-laws.
  • Formulate long-range objectives and policies relative to future land use and the protection of the environment.
  • Conduct research and gather data to inform planning decisions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in urban planning or a related field.
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and MS Office.
  • Valid driver's license.
