Job Title: Animal Health Manager

Maple Leaf Foods is seeking an experienced Animal Health Manager to join our team. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for overseeing the health and production of animals in our swine production sites.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in veterinary medicine and experience in swine health management. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete herd health visits at owned and contract swine production sites
  • Establish and maintain health plans for each site
  • Build collaborative working relationships with production staff, nutritionists, and others to improve health and production
  • Provide leadership and accountability on adherence to biosecurity protocols
  • Consult with pharmaceutical vendors and support purchasing decisions
  • Supervise veterinary technician(s) if required
  • Sample and submit relevant diagnostics to respective Laboratories
  • Regional travel to various barn sites within the operation of Maple Leaf Agri Farms
Requirements:
  • A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in Manitoba
  • Valid driver's license
  • Understanding of swine diagnostic laboratory analyses, diseases, and their treatments
  • Ability to determine and manage on-farm swine health within a budget
  • Excellent communication, time management, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Relevant experience in medium to larger veterinary practice (porcine preferred)
