About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team in providing care to patients with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) / serious mental illness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to patients, including assistance with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, prosthetics, elimination, and exercise routines.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, such as making beds, laundry, and organization.
  • Prepare and serve meals, and assist with feeding patients as needed.
  • Perform procedures such as weighing patients, monitoring nutritional/fluid intake and elimination, and collecting specimens.
  • Chart patient information and report problems or changes to nursing staff.
  • Monitor patient safety and respond to escalating behaviour through verbal de-escalation and other strategies.
  • Participate in patient activity programs, such as arts and crafts, sports, music, and cooking.
  • Escorts patients off unit for treatment or diagnostic procedures, and transports patients using mechanical aids.

Requirements

  • Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program, and completion of recognized recreational courses.
  • One year's recent experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, and physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this role is $43.11-$52.66 per hour, based on experience and location within Fraser Health.
