About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Hand Operator to join our team at EPCOR. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for directing the day-to-day activities of our water treatment plant and ensuring that all operations are conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise operations staff to ensure that all requirements for Approvals to Operate are met, including quality control and reporting.
  • Ensure that all working procedures are performed in compliance with ISO 14001 standards.
  • Hold operations staff accountable for their roles and responsibilities and lead by example.
  • Update procedures and create training exercises for operators.
  • Collect and analyze data for monthly, regulatory, and operational reporting.
  • Step in to complete field rounds, plant rounds, or lab duties as required.
  • Oversee laboratory sampling and provide guidance to operators on process controls.
  • Interface with EPCOR maintenance staff, contractors, suppliers, scientists, and process engineers to optimize plant operations.
  • Respond to client and public inquiries with tact and professionalism.
  • Anticipate and resolve potential process issues through SCADA system and lab data analysis.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
  • Minimum Level 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment.
  • Certification in other three disciplines (ideal).
  • NAIT Water & Wastewater Technician Certificate or University-level Science degree (preferred).
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software systems.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License with 6 or fewer demerits.
  • 5-year Commercial Drivers Abstract required at time of hire.
  • Class 3 license with Q endorsement (asset).
  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong results orientation and commitment to quality service and excellence.
  • Proven experience leading and motivating an operating team.
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing.
