About the Role

EPCOR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Hand Operator to join our team in Canmore, Alberta. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our Level III Wastewater Treatment Plant, Level II Water Treatment Plant, and Level III Distribution and Collection systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directing operations staff in meeting all requirements for Approvals to Operate, including quality control on records and preparing reports.
  • Ensuring working procedures are performed in compliance with ISO 14001 standards.
  • Leading by example and holding operations staff accountable to their roles and responsibilities.
  • Updating procedures and creating training exercises for operators.
  • Collecting and analyzing data for monthly, regulatory, and operational reporting.
  • Stepping in to complete field rounds, plant rounds, or lab duties as required.
  • Overseeing laboratory sampling and providing guidance on process controls.
  • Interfacing with EPCOR maintenance staff, contractors, suppliers, scientists, and process engineers to optimize plant operations.
  • Responding to client and public inquiries with tact and professionalism.
  • Proactively anticipating and resolving potential process issues through SCADA system and lab data analysis.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
  • Minimum Level 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment.
  • Certification in other disciplines (ideally all four).
  • NAIT Water & Wastewater Technician Certificate or University-level Science degree (preferred).
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software systems.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License with 6 or fewer demerits.
  • Commercial Drivers Abstract (5 years) and EPCOR driver's permit.
  • Class 3 license with Q endorsement (asset).
  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong results orientation and commitment to quality service and excellence.
  • Experience leading and motivating an operating team.
  • Pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing clearance.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time permanent position, working 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, with one hour for lunch. Overtime and weekend work are required, and you will be part of the on-call rotation system.
