The Corporation of the City of North Bay's Building Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Building Inspector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce the Building Code Act and Regulations, as well as other By-laws related to residential projects.
  • Examine plans, obtain information for issuance of building permits, conduct inspections, and maintain accurate records.
  • Conduct investigations, issue Provincial offences Certificates, and summons.
  • Carry out duties of Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, Property Standards Officer, Provincial Offences Officer, and other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of Architectural or Engineering Technologist Program or related discipline.
  • Completion of the following courses related to Bill 124: Building Inspector I or Building Inspector II.
  • Five (5) years previous related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, Provincial Offences Act, and related documents.
  • Training in Ontario Municipal Law Enforcement and Ontario Property Standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction materials and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License and have a vehicle available for use on the job.
Working Conditions:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week).

Unionized environment.

Current Hourly Rate: $37.39 per hour (Building Inspector I) or $40.36 per hour (Building Inspector II).
