About the Role

HITACHI RAIL STS CANADA, INC. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System that meets the requirements of ISO 45001.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Health and Safety Management System that ensures compliance with ISO 45001 and internal policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a Legal and Other Requirements Register to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a project-specific Health and Safety Plan.
  • Collaborate with the project team to identify and mitigate risks associated with the project.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure that employees are aware of their Health and Safety responsibilities.
  • Conduct incident investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent future incidents.
  • Monitor and report on Health and Safety metrics and trends.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in Health and Safety, preferably in a similar industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or an Associate's degree in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Experience implementing Health and Safety programs and policies in a 45001-certified organization.
  • Experience developing and implementing internal auditing programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing site safety programs.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in rail construction or a similar industry.
  • Experience with Human and Organizational Performance Management techniques.
  • Lead ISO 45001 Auditor Certification.
  • Master's degree in an Occupational Safety and Health discipline.
  • Accreditation by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) or the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
