Child Welfare Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Child Welfare Specialist to join our team at the Government of Nunavut. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in enhancing the overall health and well-being of individuals and families across the territory.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Family Wellness, you will represent the Department of Family Services in all matters related to child welfare. Your expertise will be essential in working with other professional bodies, including the RCMP, Mental Health, Medical Personnel, Education, Justice, and community resources. You will be considered an essential service provider in your assigned community.
Key focus areas for this position include prevention/intervention work, adoptions, child welfare, and providing liaison services within the community.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you must possess a Diploma in Social Work, plus 1 year of practical child protection experience. A Bachelor's degree from a recognized university, plus 1 year of practical child protection experience, is preferred. Additionally, you must have a valid class 5 driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 4 months of hire. A Vulnerable Sector check is also required, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain a Child and Family Services Appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also valuable assets.
What We Offer:
As a valued member of our team, you will receive a competitive salary package, including a base salary range of $93,582-$106,208 annually, 37.5 hours/week, and a Northern Living Allowance based on community. This position is included in the Nunavut Employees Union, and Type of Employment is Indeterminate.
Community Information:
Community Social Services Worker positions will be located in various communities across Nunavut, including Arctic Bay, Arviat, Cambridge Bay, Igloolik, Iqaluit, Kinngait, Kugaaruk, Naujaat, Qikiqtarjuaq, and Taloyoak. The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to one of these communities.

An eligibility list may be created to fill current and future vacancies across the Department of Family Services in all communities. Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position.
