Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer - Casual to join our team at the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a Casual Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our correctional facilities, while also providing supervision and support to offenders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and security of offenders, staff, and visitors by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Supervise the daily routine of offenders, including conducting head counts, searches, and providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain control over the use and access to security equipment, including keys, locks, and other sensitive materials.
  • Assist in the development of case plans for offenders, including identifying goals and objectives, and developing strategies for rehabilitation and reintegration.
  • Work with assigned offenders to provide information and support to assist in their rehabilitation, including providing access to educational and vocational programs.
  • Assist in the development of release plans for offenders, including identifying resources and support services needed for successful reintegration into the community.
  • Assist with referrals for medical, assessment, and treatment purposes, as required, and complete required documentation on an ongoing basis.
  • Deliver offender programs under the coordination of program personnel, including providing instruction and guidance to offenders.
  • Prepare incident reports as required, and initiate offender discipline as needed, in accordance with the Correctional Services Act and Regulations.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are followed on a daily basis, and report any incidents or concerns to management.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a correctional or security-related field an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with offenders, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
