Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plumber II to join our team at Wilfrid Laurier University. As a key member of our Facilities Operations department, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining all University plumbing systems and fixtures, including gas fired equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of tasks related to plumbing, including new installations, renovations, and repairs.
  • Contribute to the effective use of the Quality Control System and participate in team-based initiatives.
  • Work with leadhands and other team members to ensure seamless execution of projects.
  • Install, repair, and maintain gas fired equipment and hot water heating systems, adhering to safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Assist in establishing preventative maintenance schedules and perform pipefitting tasks as required.
  • Access, monitor, and control Building Automation Systems when necessary.
  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures, including urinals, washbasins, grease traps, water softeners, and deionizers.
  • Test and maintain records for water systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials from suppliers as needed.
  • Perform soldering and welding tasks as required, adhering to safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Work with sketches and blueprints to ensure accurate installation and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Valid Certificate of Apprenticeship, Plumber.
  • Valid Department of Labour Certificate of Qualification - Plumber.
  • Gas Technician II Certificate.
  • Training and certification in Cross Connection Control.
  • Current experience in the trade, with demonstrated experience as a plumber/gas technician.
  • Experience in building maintenance related to the trade.
  • Computer literacy, including use of control systems and University computer systems.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision, with strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Valid Class - G Ontario Driver's license.
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a physically demanding environment, with varying temperatures, noise, exposure to fumes, chemicals, and solvents, and potentially infectious or toxic environments. You will also be required to work in cramped quarters and perform tasks that involve heavy lifting and bending.

Compensation

This is a full-time, continuing position with a competitive salary of $36.63 per hour. The normal hours of work are Friday to Sunday, 4:00 am to 4:00 pm. All Laurier employees and students are required to comply with the University's Covid-19 mandatory vaccination policy.
