Plumber II

The Plumber II position at Wilfrid Laurier University is a critical role that requires a skilled and experienced individual to perform a wide range of tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems and fixtures. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Operations, and will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe operation of plumbing systems across the university campus.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a variety of tasks related to plumbing systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of fixtures and equipment.
- Work with leadhands and other team members to ensure the effective use of the Quality Control System.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules.
- Perform pipefitting and other related tasks as required.
- Access, monitor, and control Building Automation Systems as needed.
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures, including urinals, washbasins, grease traps, water softeners, deionizers, and other equipment.
- Test and maintain records for water systems.
- Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials as required.
- Perform soldering and welding as needed.
- Work with sketches and blueprints to ensure accurate installation and repair of plumbing systems.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Valid Certificate of Apprenticeship, Plumber.
- Valid Department of Labour Certificate of Qualification - Plumber.
- Gas Technician II Certificate.
- Training and certification in Cross Connection Control.
- Currently working in the trade.
- Demonstrated experience as a plumber/gas technician.
- Experience in building maintenance related to the trade.
- Computer literacy, including use of control systems and University computer systems.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Valid Class - G Ontario Driver's license.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
- Physical effort: Carrying supplies, bending pipes, reaching, bending, stretching, climbing, and heavy lifting.
- Physical environment: Varying temperatures, noise, exposure to fumes, chemicals, and solvents, dirty water, and possibly infectious or toxic environments.
- Sensory attention: Following required codes, reading blueprints, and attention to detail when pipefitting to avoid leaks or explosions.
- Mental stress: Moderate, with occasional on-call duties.
