Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join our interdisciplinary team at IWK Health Centre. The successful candidate will provide social work services and family-centered care to children, youth, and their families in our Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of the Emergency Department, the Social Worker will:

  • Practice as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide social work services and family-centered care
  • Assess, counsel, and provide brief therapeutic interventions to patients and families experiencing stressors associated with acute and chronic illness
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to meet the needs of patients and families
  • Liaise with health and government services to facilitate resource acquisition and advocacy
  • Participate in committee work and contribute to program development, evaluation, and research
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree in Social Work, current licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, and a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Masters-prepared Social Worker.

Experience working with children experiencing chronic illness and conducting brief individual and family therapy, case management, advocacy, and community liaison is essential.

The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the social determinants of health, cultural competence, and best practices in assessment and intervention with children, youth, and families.
