Fibre Optic Network Engineer Lead

As a key member of Johnson Service Group's team, the OSP Design and Development Specialist will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of outside plant telecommunications projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in fibre optic network engineering and excellent knowledge of municipal and 3rd party permitting processes.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Designing and developing fibre optic networks that meet client specifications
  • Creating detailed plans, including cable and splicing plans, conduit plans, etc.
  • Updating fibre design databases and maintaining system maps, including base maps, cable, fibre routes, and addresses
  • Importing AutoCAD, TIFF or other file formats and hard copy maps to create electronic base maps
  • Incorporating field changes and as-built changes from draft prints to the system database
  • Preparing permitting packages and managing the approval process
  • Creating and validating detailed Bill of Materials list
  • Determining method to design the network with minimal impact to the system and customer and minimizing related construction cost and ensuring the quality of design
  • All other duties as designed

Your qualifications should include :

  • Post Secondary Diploma in Electrical, Civil, Architectural Technology, or another relevant field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering fibre optic networks
  • Excellent knowledge, skills, and working experience with Autodesk AutoCAD are assets
  • Excellent knowledge of municipal and 3rd party permitting processes for building fibre optic networks
  • Knowledge of CSA standards, including but not limited to CSA 22.3
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • An initiative-taking, self-starter with an attention to detail is necessary
  • Experience with customer-specific applications such as NetX and SpatialNet is an asset
  • Experience with GIS software and tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, and 3-GIS is an asset
  • Knowledge of RF / CATV and fibre systems (fiber-to-the-home / FTTH, FTTB, FTTx) is an asset
