Job Summary

The Workplace Investigations Specialist is a critical role within St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, responsible for conducting thorough and impartial investigations into workplace complaints and incidents. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations into workplace complaints and incidents, including harassment and discrimination, conduct, workplace violence, and other workplace issues.
  • Develop and implement investigation plans, gathering information, conducting interviews, and documenting evidence.
  • Provide advice and guidance to employees and management on workplace policies and procedures, as well as applicable employment legislation.
  • Collaborate with Employee & Labour Relations and Human Resources Services to ensure a consistent approach to handling human rights concerns and complaints.
  • Prepare investigation reports and summaries, as well as provide recommendations for resolution and follow-up action.
  • Stay up-to-date with applicable labour and employment legislation, as well as best practices in workplace investigations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting large strategic HR projects and providing assistance with team vacation coverage.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Business, Human Resources, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience conducting workplace investigations in a multi-union environment, with a focus on harassment and discrimination.
  • Proven track record of conducting thorough and impartial investigations, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitivity to and awareness of Indigenous, gender, and disability-related issues, as well as their intersection with other identities.
  • Specialized education or training in workplace investigations, with knowledge of relevant Ontario employment legislation.
  • Experience attending and preparing materials for Human Rights Tribunal and/or Arbitration proceedings.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office software programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential matters.
